let's get the convo started

Gambling’s everywhere right now, and it’s easier to get into than ever. Betting on the fights, playing online pokies, spinning loot boxes for skins… it all adds up.

For some people, it’s just a bit of fun. For others, it can quietly sneak up and cause real harm. When that happens, shame can kick in. People go quiet. And that can make things even worse.

The good news? Talking about it helps.

Having honest conversations about gambling - the wins and the losses - makes it more likely people get support early. We know those chats can feel uncomfortable, so we’ve put together some resources to help you get started.

Check out the videos below to see real conversations between mates, couples, whānau, and even a nan and her grandson. Then explore our guides on how to talk about gambling - whether it’s about yourself or someone you care about.

How do i start the convo?

First up - props to you. Even thinking about starting the conversation is a big step, and you’ve already taken it. It’s normal for this stuff to feel awkward or a bit scary at first. That’s okay. You don’t need to have the perfect words or say everything right - just showing up matters.

Below are some resources to help you figure out your next steps and make starting the convo feel a little easier.

Looking for more help?

Sometimes you need a bit more support - whether it’s to take that first step, get help for yourself, or figure out how to support someone else who’s struggling. That’s completely okay.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with like‑minded organisations to create this campaign and connect our communities with the right support. Below, you’ll find free and confidential services you can reach out to directly.
